My Text conversations disappear, often before I've had a chance to read them. Why? and can I get them back?

Also, I just purchased more icloud space, it didn't make a difference for the text messages, they are still missing and disappearing.

iPhone 5c has a coloured case.
Do you sync messages with some other provider?
Do you have enough space on your iPhone (not iCloud)?
