Q: Problem sending a text to a number instead of a contact name?
Hi, apologies if this has been asked before, I can't find this issue elsewhere. I got a new iphone SE last week, it is running latest version of iOS 10.
I've noticed that If I want to sent a text/iMessage to a phone number that I haven't rung or messaged before (so it is not in my contacts under a name) I can't type in more than the first three digits of the phone number without everything freezing up. For example, yesterday I wanted to text someone who had just given me their number, which started 07774. I typed 077 and couldn't type any more-the screen just didn't respond, so I kept tapping on 7 and suddenly it unfroze and put in a load of 7's because I'd been tapping and tapping. I tried several times, always the same thing.
I tried turning the phone off and back on, I've done the reboot thing where you hold down the power button and home button together and neither has helped.
Not a massive problem as I don't often need to text someone who isn't in my contacts, but very annoying. I wondered if it was anything to do with the fact that as soon as I start typing the number, the app brings up my contacts that match it, until it realises it's not any of my contacts and THEN it doesn't know what to do? I can type the 077 no problem, because I have contacts whose numbers start with that, but nobody with 0777...and that's when it stops letting me type, when I was trying to put that third 7 in.
I ended up having to create a contact for this person, and access messages from his contact info page just to be able to message him, when I should have just been able to type his number in.
Is there some weird setting on the phone that I've just not set correctly? is it maybe an iOS 10 problem? Any ideas?
Thanks
iPhone SE, iOS 10.0.3
