shuffle 2nd gen 4 orange blinks after connecting to dock

So I didn't use my ipod for a while and now it doesn't want to charge, nor to connect to computer. When connecting to comupter literally nothing happens. When I tried to connect ipod directly "to the wall", while it was turned on, ipod blinked orange 4 times and that's all. Nothing happens after that. What does that mean? I tried to google every possible blinking types but there were only typical explanations(turned on, battery low, etc)

iPod shuffle, Windows 7

What happens (with shuffle's light) when you connect it to that USB power adapter, with the shuffle's power switch in the OFF position?

A 2nd gen shuffle has its own special USB docking cable, the one that came with it. It is long with a "cradle" at the iPod end, where you "dock" the shuffle. Is that the docking cable you are using now? The ultra-short USB docking cable for the current 4th gen (and 3rd gen) shuffle does not work with 2nd gen shuffle, because the connector is different.

If you get no light at all when you connect shuffle to USB power adapter (or to computer's USB port), my guess is that shuffle's battery is not able to charge. If you leave a lithium battery completely discharged for a long period, it can become unable to charge. OR, there may be a problem on iPod's logic board.

Since you can get it to flash the error signal (when power switch is ON), the USB docking cable is probably not the thing that is faulty.
