Problems installing iTunes 12.5.1.21x64 on Windows 8
Trying to install the subject software. Get a message that says:
"Errors occurred during installation before iTunes could be configured."
There was a previous version of iTunes, and I tried to uninstall it through control panel. But it gave errors about temp files permissions and free space. I ruled out both of those. So I followed these steps to manually remove the previous iTunes software:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support
....to include having to use Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility to get the uninstall to work, which it did. Then I followed the rest of the steps in the Apple page above to manually remove all the directories, which was successful, and a fresh reboot.
Trying to install iTunes at this point gave the exact same error as above.
Made sure to follow these steps: If you can't install or update iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
...which included removing prior versions of iTunes (which I had done before), and running the install as an administrator, and disabling AV/firewall/security software.

...which were many of the things I had already tried, but included trying to download an "older video cards" version of the installer. Same error. I tried downloading earlier versions of iTunes, trying 3-4 of the 64 bit and 32 bit versions going back to 2012. Interestingly, they all gave the exact same error as above, including the 2012 version.
Called Apple Support. I'm convinced the poor guy (I was pretty grumpy at this point) was really just doing the same Googling I was doing to come up with things to try. He had no ideas that I hadn't already tried and weren't contained in the links I have posted above. He suggested I try calling Microsoft. Yeah, I wonder what they'll say about this iTunes install problem.
Ok. Any ideas that I haven't listed above that I could try?
