How to maintain transparency in video export

It used to be that I could produce text in Keynote, animate it, put it on a background colour fill set to 0% opacity, and export the slide as a Quicktime movie using Apple ProRes 4444 to maintain transparency in the final video.

However, Apple ProRes 4444 does not appear to maintain transparency anymore, at least using the settings I used to use. Does anyone have a workaround for this? Thanks so much!

Thank you for your response. That's what I was afraid of. Are there any workarounds to this because that's a huge feature I was using? It would be worth downgrading to an earlier version to get the capability back, but I don't see a way to downgrade. That would also be moot point if Apple is never going to bring the capability back, as I can't forever work in an older version. But if it's just a matter of waiting until they reincorporate the feature, that would be worth downgrading in the interim.

The workaround is to use version 6.6.2.

from past experience:

  • there have always been issues with a dot zero version of an application (e.g. Keynote 7.0)
  • Apple have always issued updates to fix applications with problems
  • I always keep a backup copy of the previous version of all the applications on my Mac to re-install if needed

from current observations:

Keynote 6.6.2 runs perfectly well in Sierra

Keynote 6.6.2 will still run correctly in El Capitan and Yosemite

Keynote 6.6.2, El Capitan and Yosemite can be re-installed from the Mac App Store

Ok, thank you. I don't see Keynote 6.6.2 in the Canadian Mac App Store (we also don't have the old operating systems), so I'll have to see if there's any other way of obtaining it. I'll start saving old versions of programs. Sounds smart.

Has anyone heard when Apple's coming out with their next version of Keynote? Perhaps it's just a patch they'll release for the alpha channel capability.

What version of Mac OS and Keynote have you installed previously?

Your profile states you are using, or have used El Capitan, therefore the El Capitan version of the Mac App Store will list under the purchased tab your previous installs of El Capitan and Keynote.

Apple do not make announcements about updates prior to their release.

To access Keynote 6.6.2. from Mac App Store, El Capitan will need to be installed with the El Capitan version of the Mac App store.

You could employ a dual boot system, with Sierra installed on the Mac and El Capitan installed on an external bootable USB drive and boot up the Mac in either El Capitan or Sierra. You could also copy over Keynote 6.6.2 to run in Sierra.
