New Sierra update

Hello, I was wondering how much data is used to download the new update Sierra on my iMac, I have limited internet in my house, 5 GB a month to be exact. I don't mind paying for another GB or 2 if thats all it is. It says almost 5 GB of data but I am wondering if that is what it actually is. I had to take my iMac to a friends to download my current update El Capitan. Thank you for your time.

If you are that limited, may I suggest that once you get the OS installer downloaded, dismiss the installer and copy/save it to a safe place for possible later use (it will be in the Applications folder). After you save it elsewhere, you can double click the installer and begin with the install. That way, you will not need to download the main installer again in case you need to reinstall due to a problem or whatever.

I keep bootable clones of every OS that can be run on my machines on external drives.

No, I did not get an installer. I thought the OP was referring to the base Sierra installer since they mentioned 5 GB and was simply trying to make a suggestion about that.

As for updates - .1, etc - once there is a download on the regular downloads page, that is also a separate installer which can be downloaded and then installed now (or later). The app store downloads/installs are the seamless ones. Not sure what the cancel button would have done as I've never tried it.

I'm surprised the update hasn't shown up here yet:
