HP Laserjet 1012 now very slow after installing macOS Sierra

Normally very fast b&w HP Laserjet 1012 has slowed by factor of 5X after installing macOS Sierra. Have reset printing system, checked drivers, to no avail. Any suggestions of a remedy will be gratefully listened to.

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12), 8 GB

Hi,

In accordance with the solutions (from other people who sufferd problems with their not so recent HP device since os X Sierra) it is in most cases helpful to reinstall your HP driver. The driver you need can be found here: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=306510&swLangOid=8 &swEnvOid=4082

HP didn't -sadly enough- develop any new driver for this device since osX 10.6...

Sometimes it can also help to delete your device in the preference panel for printers and add it again.

Good luck!

Thanx much for your reply. I have the latest driver (2.0.4) for the HP1012 (I was running Lion prior to Sierra, with no printing problems), and have reinstalled it to no avail. I've also deleted the printer in the preference panel & added it again, unfortunately with the same results. I suspect Apple just wants me to buy a new printer. 😟

Try this driver: Gutenprint for Mac.

I suspect Apple just wants me to buy a new printer.

And why would Apple want you to buy a new printer? They don't make printers. It's HP that wants you to buy a new printer because they haven't updated the drivers for the old printer to be compatible with Sierra. Put the blame where it belongs. Statements like that make you sound like the donald.

I had a 1012n for many years and it was a work horse. It finally gave up the ghost and was replaced by an HP Lasetjet 2035n (for networking). It's been a great replacement. However, I've gone to getting 3rd party refurbished toner cartridges and are very happy with them. Lately I've been getting them from Speedy Links thru Amazon @ about $17 per and getting about 2000 pages per cartridge. Just can afford the HP cartridges.

I won't use 3rd party cartridges for our ink printers but have no concerns doing so for the laser printer.
