iPhone 7 large data use (safari)

Hi All,

I recently upgraded to a new iPhone 7 (v 10.1) and since making the change my data usage has gone through the roof. Looking at settings > mobile it says that Safari has consumed the most around 4Gb in like 5 days, my usage has not changed whatsoever browsing the same sites and not browsing excessively at all.... I survived the past 3 years on a data plan of only 2.5Gb but I am now 5 days into my new plan and have used close to 6Gb of data (i did some initial downloads to test out the new telco I am with as I am on a 15Gb plan so that accounts for the other 2Gb).

I have ensured all the relevant settings are tweaked i.e. WiFi Assist is turned off.

Has anyone seen this problem occur on iPhone 7?

Thanks!!

Hi ryaneco!

Thanks for posting your concern in the Apple Support Communities, and congratulations on your new iPhone 7! It seems as if your Safari app is consuming an abnormal amount of data. If you have not done so already, try clearing the History and Website Data by tapping:
Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data

Clear your Safari browser history and set up content blockers on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Here's a great link for checking and managing your data usage. About cellular data settings and usage on your iPhone and iPad

You can also try force closing the Safari app then relaunch. Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

This should have your Safari app consuming less data than it is. Have a great day.

Thanks Jay.

I'd tried most of those without success but the content blocker seems to be doing the trick now... shame though... I wonder if iPhone 7 is doing something around the rendering of images in a higher resolution - I haven't changed the sites I browse yet they seem to be using far more data.
