Chinese input in Sierra not working

Hi, I'm having a bizarre problem with the Chinese input recently. If I select any Chinese input source, no matter whether it's traditional, simplified, pinyin or wubi xing, none of my keyboard input shows up. The individual letters don't appear, and the candidate window isn't triggered. This is very strange, since the input does seem to register - when I call up the keyboard window, the appropriate keys flash when I type.

I haven't seen anybody else suggest this specific problem here, but I have tried some of the solutions that were suggested for similar cases - setting up a new user account, restoring the standard fonts, and restarting in safe mode. None of that has worked so far, so I'd really appreciate a suggestion on what else I could try. Thanks!

Apple just fixed it on Ver. 10.13.1

What is your plan for inputting Chinese if that is the only way to fix your problem?

Try setting up a new user account and see if you have the same problem when logged into that.

You can install an alternative IM

The upgrade process damaged something in you main account. I don't kniw how to fix that. You may need to move everything to a new fully working account.

PS I suggest you also post your info about this in the High Sierra forum, since this one, for Sierra, is no longer relevant for bug fixing issues.

I have the same problem too. It's a bug on Sierra. The problem usually happened on upgraded system.

I upgrade to the High Sierra. The bug still exists ( High Sierra 10.13.1).

Did you try a safe boot? That may fix your problem.

You're not helping. We want to know what went wrong and resolve the issue. What's the point of asking for help here when the answer we get is to reinstall OS, which is ridiculous. Hope you get my point. Thanks.

Same issue here.

after updating from Sierra the Chinese Input Sources disappear. I even went to System Preferences --> Keyboard --> Input Sources and could not add Chinese input at all; it simply cannot be found on the list showed.

FYI: Uninstalling and installing is not feasible since it takes too much time.

I haven't tried it. but, I'm quite sure it will fix the problem because prior to my clean install I did create a new account and the language issue is no longer present.

Anyway, I dove a little deeper and checked /Library/Preferences/com.apple.HIToolbox.plist and according to the plist, the Chinese inputs are present; I'm just going to wait for Apple to fix it.
