Embedded keyboard and trackpad of MacBook Pro no longer working after upgrade to MacOS Sierra

Hi,

Since I upgraded my MacBook Pro to MacOS Sierra, the embedded keyboard and trackpad are no longer working. I can only interact with it by means of an external keyboard and trackpad. How can I fix this please?

See if resetting the SMC helps > Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Unfortunately I have tried this several times without any effect.
