Does anyone know how to tranfer a single user over to a new Mac?

I'm currently using my girlfriends iMac while I wait for my new Macbook Pro.

If possible, I'd like to transfer all of my files and settings over when I get the new computer. I know I can migrate the entire computer but would prefer to just migrate the one user that I've set up for myself if possible.

Thanks for your help!

Hello LevinsonID,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. I know how important being able to transfer your info to your new MacBook Pro! The good news is the following steps will be helpful, as you don't have to transfer the entire contents of your girlfriend's iMac and you can transfer only your user account to the new MacBook Pro with the built in Migration Assistant:

Move your content to a new Mac

If you want to transfer specific content from your user account to the new MacBook Pro, there is an Apple article on how to manually migrate your content:

OS X: Manually migrating data from another Mac

Cheers!

When you turn on your Mac for the very first time, answer Yes when it asks you if you want to transfer information from another Mac. You can select to transfer only your user account and nothing else if you wish.

Don't make the mistake of answering No and then attempting to do it later once you've already set up and configured your new Mac. You will end up with two user accounts and will have to deal with how to combine them.
