Emptying trash after downgrade to Yosemite

I successfully downgraded from Sierra to Yosemite the other day, following the online instructions (I had skipped El Capitan). Everything now works as it used to, except that the Trash still empties as if Sierra was still there. How is that possible and what can I do to restore the old way of deleting files from the trash, i.e. keeping them in the trash until I decide I want either erase or secure erase them? I noticed that deleting files from an external hard disk still uses the 'old' method.

Hello !

if you are using Mac OS X Yosemite and wants to empty the trash securely .

Open finder & its preferences > select advanced > select the box securely empty the trash .

To always , empty the trash recommended method is , restart the machine and empty the trash .

But general trend is click to finder & empty the trash .

In Mac OS Sierra a new feature has been added when you click on apple logo > about this Mac > Manage if you forgot to empty the trash the contents will be automatically deleted after 30 days .

Thanks !

In Yosemite and earlier versions things you throw out stay in the trash until you empty it. In Sierra, as soon as you delete something (command+return) you are asked "Are you sure you want to delete so-and-so?", giving you the options Cancel (blue button) or Delete (white button). I you choose Delete, for which you have to click on the button every time, the trash is emptied immediately, you can no longer keep things in the trash and delete them all at once when you finished with a job, as I was used to in Yosemite. I understand that this is a new feature in Sierra, but having downgraded back to Yosemite I don't understand why this feature is still there. How can I restore the older function?
