How can I hide the Calendar sidebar so it stays hidden?

Hi all.

Until recently I'm sure that when I launched Calendar on my Mac it opened without the calendar list showing in the sidebar. I just got the dates displayed in the grid filling the whole window.

But since I added a new calendar the other day, the sidebar doesn't seem to want to remain hidden.

I keep clicking on View>Hide calendar list, and sure enough the list vanishes. But if I then quit Calendar, the next time I launch it again the calendar list is back again. I have also tried dragging the demarcation line right over to the left, but the same thing happens; when i re-launch the app the list is back again.

Anyone have any idea how to remove the calendar list on a more permanent basis please?

Cheers.

Although I believed I'd solved my problem by toggling between the day, week, month & year views, (and it did work at the time), the problem has now started again, and no amount of toggling the views seems to make any difference now.

I click on the 'Calendar' button at the top of the sidebar, and the list of calendars disappears as I want it to, but only until the next time I launch the app. When I do that the calendar list sidebar is back again, and I have to click the button again to make it go away, until the next time I launch the app... etc.

So, back to square one. Anyone have any ideas please?

At the top left corner there should be Calendars button. What happens when the sidebar is showing and you click on that button? It should hide the sidebar. I know it does for me and keeps it hidden. I never use the View option to display the Sidebar. Instead, I always use the Calendars button to toggle the sidebar on/off.

Ha!

I've just solved my own problem. I know what I did, but I have no idea why it should have worked...

With the app open I clicked on the 'Week' and 'Day' buttons in the middle at the top, before returning to the 'Month' view that I normally always leave it on. I quit the app and re-launched it, and the sidebar stayed hidden!

I haven't the foggiest clue why that did the trick, though...
