The OS X app store icon shows 8 updates, which briefly appeared in the download screen, but they immediately disappeared. The icon still shows 8 updates available, however.
Tried closing and reopening the App Store app. Also tried rebooting. Also tried deleting App Store caches. This problem is happening on two of my iMacs.
Any ideas?
Try through the "Purchased" tab. I found those that need updating (6 apps in my case) in this section, and I could download them all.
Yup, that worked for me, too. Still, it's odd that the Update page is failing.
Exact same problem here and the updating via "Purchased" not working for me.

This looks like a backend problem on Apple's side. They'll probably clear things up later today or tomorrow.
Worked for me ... but you have to know what the Updates actually are. I assumed all the Apple application suite would be being updated thanks to the MacOS update, and the fact that they'd been updated for IOS, and this proved correct. So, update Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iMovie, and GarageBand (click on their names, and in the Store page you'll see the option to Update).
Wonder what's behind the glitch on the Updates tab in the App store?
I have the same issue and then I looked in the launchpad and a bunch of apps are greyed out to be updated but in a paused state which effectively knocked out a bunch of apps like iMovie, Pages, etc from being useable. Thankfully PabloFP noted that they can be seen in the purchased section and I was able to click on them to make them resume. A distinct lack of testing to miss something like this.
Five of the updates are likely, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iMovie and GarageBand. You can update each one by searching on the Purchased pane and clicking the Update button to the far right of the name of the app.
The 6th is likely the new iTunes which can be downloaded and installed manually from here;
