4xxx/6/40000005: Battery error during online hardware test

I Am running into a brick wall with my late 2011 17" MBP. The other day I got a gray screen at startup and nothing else. Booting into safe mode or resetting the NVRAM doesn't do anything. I booted up holding option and d and got the internet hardware test. I ran the extended test and got a battery fault. The title explains it but the picture shows the strange symbols.

It gets halfway through the startup progress bar then goes to a black screen and then gray. I am stationed in korea and I am having a hard time finding a authorized apple repair place. I contacted Apple and they gave me the Korean website to find a location. Of course it is in Korean and I can understand any of it.

I did replace the battery about 6 months ago but haven't been having any problems.

A client of mine brought in his 15" MacBook Pro 2011 to repair some subtle display distortion, which turned out to be symptom much dust accumulation. While checking the video issue, I ran the Apple Hardware Test (opt-D upon startup). It gave me the same 4000/6/40000005 error message. I probably could have found more information, had I spent more than five minutes Googling it. Instead, I asked the customer about the battery's history.

I turns out he had just replaced the battery recently. My hunch is that it may be an off-brand battery. It could also be that the low battery cycle count doesn't match the Mac's age. Whether it's a non-Apple or simply new, alerting the user of this detail would make sense.

I told my customer to continue using the laptop as usual, but to keep a power cord handy. I hope this helps.

PS there were no apparent power-related issues with the Mac beyond the error message.
