Limits on number of photos in slideshows?

Is there a limit on the number of photos that can be included in a slide show? I have 57,000+ photos and when I try to select them all for a slide show Photos hangs and must be force quit.

My ultimate goal is to run a random slide show of all images on Apple TV. Last I saw there is no random option for slide shows in Photos, and even if that weren't true I have had problems connecting my 27" iMac to my ATV. After talking with Apple store people, part of that problem may be my 2nd gen ATV. I'll upgrade to the latest but first want to sort out issues with Photos on the computer.

There is no published limit for the number in photos in a slideshow. I have no problems with using my Favorites album with 6000 photos.

But you can show a shuffled slideshow of all your photos on your Mac using the screensaver from the system preferences > Desktop & Screensaver.

It can load any album from the Photos Library and you can enable "Shuffle Slides".

Thanks for the response léonie. I am aware of the screensaver workaround but was hoping a Photos update would have added the random slideshow feature. I'm guessing that hasn't happened.

I didn't know there was an Apple Script option, and now that I do, having looked at the link, it may be beyond my capability. But I will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion léonie.
