Why does iMovie 10.1.3 always crashes right after starting?

I never use iMovie.

Today I got an update, probably for the Touch Bar functionality.

EDIT:

App Store said I have 5 updates, but did not list the updates.

So I went in the list of purchases where I found 4 apps to be updated. Clicked all update buttons.

Then the 4 magically appeared in the update list + the 5th one -> iTunes

Looking at disk usage, I saw that I have iMovie 9 and iMovie 10.

So I was thinking about deleting v9, to save some space.

But first I started v10 by curiosity.

It started with the welcome assistant and asked if I want to update projects and events. i said yes.

Then a processed this task 1 second and crashed.

After that i systematically crashes on each start.

So I deleted the app from the application folder and reinstalled it via App Store.

But the result is the same: welcome assistant, project/event update starts and then immediately crash.

error in crash report always the same - some "FacebookJobAction" seems to be the cause... (I do not use the macOS Facebook integration, no FB account entered in macOS):

What can I do to get a working copy of iMovie 10 ?

Hmm, I was a beta tester. Maybe a reason?

So in App Store settings, I disabled the feature to get beta updates.

And as the App Store was still pushing me to install the already installed macOS Sierra, I did the reinstall.

Now I have a new build: 16B2657 instead of 16B2555.

But iMovie is still crashing 1 or 2 seconds after starting it.

Try running this program in your normal account , then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Hi All.

Same problem for me.

I've restored from Time Machine the iMovie version (backupped just before the update) and it works fine.

Now in App Store - Updates - I've again the notification of an iMovie update (to version 10.1.3).

I'll wait before update again...

Ugh. Most of what you guys are saying is beyond my capacity. I am a simple iMovie user who is now experiencing problems when I open the app. Keeps automatically crashing. I am currently working on two libraries. The first opened and crashed only when I attempted to open an on-going project I am working on. Upon restarting the library, same thing happened when attempting to open the on-going project. I then opened the other library and was able to click on the icon of the on-going project (different). It started loading the project and showed a task bar. Then it crashed. Now, whether I am opening either of the previously mentioned libraries, or attempting to create a new one, the app immediately crashes.

I am using version 10.1.3 which, if I understand correctly, came when I upgraded to Sierra.
