How do I find the cause of a warning symbol in Final Cut Pro X

I see yellow warning symbols on several of my events and am trying to find the source. Sometimes I can scroll through the timeline and see missing media or effects but other times I can look at the whole clip and not see an obvious problem.

On some some Projects with a yellow warning symbol, I can see a line in the inspector showing me Missing Effect and the Effect in question is named but on most of the Projects, there is no indication of the problem in the inspector.

On some cases there is a warning sign on the Event but no warning symbols on anything in the event browser.

I'm using FCPX 10.3 but I had this problem in 10.2 as well.

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks Al. I've looked at the icon descriptions but the problem is that I'm not seeing any of those specific warning icons in the time line, just the global warning sign on the Event in the browser or on the Project. I've zoomed in on the timeline and gone through it edit by edit and don't see any red screens.

Al - This was a very helpful reply. If one wasn't reading this post where would one find these meanings?

By the way, for what it's worth, I'm waiting for the dust to settle with this upgrade but just want to get my resources together. I have a LOT of unfinished projects and can't afford problems.

Page 901 of the online iBooks FCP X manual.

It's a free download and my go to reference on most devices.

It appears not to reflect the 10.3 changes at this time.

Regards the exclamation mark:

I have had that myself and even though it says something is up, all works OK.

When you move or adjust something in the Finder is a typical cause.

Always use FCP X to make changes is a good rule of thumb.

MacOS 10.11.6 El Capitan, FCPX 10.3.

Yes, just updated my libraries from the latest 10.2 version.

Another problem: In another library two synced clips lost their link to the original video. Also no idea why, all of the files are in place and reassigning doesn't work there. If i try to reassign the original camera footage, Final Cut says, that the files don't match.

The good news: 99% of my projects and libraries were updated without problems, even complex projects and plug ins like LUT.

Often the cause of this is that you have done a File>Share command and exported a file. If you then move/change/delete that file in the Finder, FCPX will put an orangey warning triangle next to your event. You'll not find any information or warning lights within the event itself but it might also show up in the 'share' info on the project you exported.

Normally clears when you close/restart FCPX.
