Multiple Page Scanning from HP Printer No Longer Working

I have been using Preview for all my PDF works including scanning from paper documents. The printer is HP Officejet Pro 8620. And I am able to scan multiple pages via the automatic document feeder without any problem so far. Everything is perfect.

But today, I am not able to scan multiple pages, although the printer did scan all the pages but the Preview app only show ONLY the first page.

What my first suspect is the new Mac OS Serria which I updated recently. Maybe I am wrong, but what else can I do. Please do not ask me to call or contact HP support (I rather commit suicide than talk with them)

have you checked hp's site if they made a newer driver / scanner software ?

The following is what I did:

1. Reset the entire printing system on my iMac (result : all printers are removed)

2. Install HP East Start from HP.com (test print ok)

3. Launch Preview > Import from (my printer) and select duplex, nothing happen (complete silence)

4. Launch Preview > Import from (my printer) and scan (without duplex), it will scan the entire stack of documents but only the first sheet is recorded

5. Go to system preferences > Printer > select Scan tab (see attached photo) and launch the HP scan utility app and the scan (without duplex) works. This means it scan the entire stack of document

6. Go to system preferences > Printer > select Scan tab and launch the HP scan utility app and the scan (with duplex), the entire system will go into pause mode, nothing is happening, no sound from the printer and I can't click the cancel button to abort the scanning job, except quitting the app.

From the above, both scanning failed (for duplex) whether I am using Preview app or HP Scan app.

Did you check out the links that Rudegar posted?

A scanner driver you may wish to consider: VueScan Scanner Software

I know you don't want to hear/read this but if you cannot find a solution here, you should get in touch w/HP. After all, it is their printer/scanner. They are the vendors that should tell you how to make THEIR product(s) work w/Apple's OS upgrades.

Yes, I download the latest driver from he link provided.

The reason why I post it here, is that this issue started after I update to Sierra. It was working well before that.

I have a MBP (El Capitan 10.11) and it is able to scan (non-duplex) and the entire stack is scanned into a single PDF. Shockingly, it can't perform duplex scanning!!!

When I use HP Scan app on my iMac, there is an exclamation mark and there is no explanation what that means and how to go about fixing it!

When will Apple produce printer?

I only can report that I have the very same effects on a HP Envy 7640.

Upgraded to Sierra, downloaded latest drivers from HP, removed, reloaded printer - did not help.

For me it looks like more of a Sierra issue than a HP Driver problem.

Hi Wolfgang,

I thought so that this is caused by the new MacOS. However, the strange thing is that one of my iMac which has NOT been upgraded to Sierra is having the same issue. I pick up my courage to call HP support and the engineer spent nearly two hours remote access to my iMac (Sierra upgraded) and did everything he as an engineer wants to do (from asking me to clean the roller, to updating the firmware via printer cable, to many attempt to uninstall and install the printer driver and many thins that you can imagine). The only time that he finally accept and convinced it is not Mac OS is when he did the scanning using web browser. The case is escalate to his senior and I have to wait and pray patiently (already sent two reminders) that HP will return with a solution or I will discard this printer and go buy Canon printer by 31.Dec.2016. This is my second HP printer in less than 3 years. Sorry for ranting.
