Airmail 3 app specific password?

Since the latest Sierra update and iTunes update, two factor has been added to my account. As a result, Airmail 3 and iOS Airmail apps will no longer import new emails. An error message appears saying the app may need an app specific password which seems odd to me. I have tried using a password generated by two factor and that doesn’t work and I have uninstalled Airmail 3 from the Mac and re-installed it. The same problem occurs with the same message appearing... any others with this problem and any fixes?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

Hi morayshire,

I understand that you've recently configured two-factor authentication but you've been unable to sign into Airmail apps since enabling this, even with an app specific password. I know it's important to be able to sign into your accounts, so I'm happy to help.

Since you came to the Apple Support Communities for support, I'm assuming that you are using an iCloud account with these apps. If that's the case, and since you already tried an app specific password, you may instead have better luck adding the verification code at the end of your password as mentioned here:

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

What if I use two-factor authentication on a device running older software?

If you use two-factor authentication with devices running older OS versions, you might be asked to add your six-digit verification code to the end of your password when signing in. Get your verification code from a trusted device running iOS 9 and later or OS X El Capitan and later, or have it sent to your trusted phone number. Then type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!
