HI,

i am giving my friend my old iPod classic, but I want to erase everything so they are able to connect/sync it with their iTunes. How do I restore the iPod to factory settings so all data etc is remove and it's like new?

thanks

In current version of iTunes, iPod appears in iTunes as a device button (when you connect it). This screenshot (upper-left corner of my iTunes window) shows iPod's device button, circled in red.

Click that button to show iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes window. The button for Restore is on that screen. Click Restore to erase iPod and set it to default "factory" settings. After Restore completes, iTunes invites you to "Get Started" with your iPod, like it's new. At that point, Eject iPod in iTunes and disconnect. Give to friend.
