When I try to burn a CD, I get this error message:
The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry.
What can I do to successfully burn a CD?
Try a different media. I've used Memorex without any problems.
What are you trying to burn and from what application?
Also try burning at the slowest speed possible.
I am trying to burn a playlist in iTunes on my iMac using the cd/dvd burner that's built in. Sometimes it works - like right now - and sometimes it doesn't, like the last 4 times I tried.
Disc burner: HL-DT-ST SVSRW GA11N
My settings usually are (and right now): maximum speed, Audio CD, 2 second gap between songs, include CD text.
If it's a symphony or opera, I change the gap setting to automatic.
Try burning at a slower speed. What brand of CD disks are you using?
Adding on: do use a slower speed; it results in far less "coasters".

I am using Ativa CD-R.
Try using this brand: Verbatim, Maxell.
I only use Verbatim - at least that is the brand my Mac likes best.
