Nike Running Club & heart rate doesn't work

I just received my apple watch nike+ edition. I connect and pair my Polar bluetooth HRM with the apple watch. But the nike app doesn't show any heart rate. During my run today I disconnected the bluetooth HRM, and the watch HRM did not start. Doesn't Nike Running Club app support heart rate monotoring?

Hi

You may find it helpful to consult Nike's support resources and/or to contact Nike for assistance with using their app:

Just got off the phone with Nike. They confirmed that external bluetooth heart rate straps (I have a Wahoo Tickr) do NOT work with the Nike Run Club app. External bluetooth heart rate straps WILL work with the Apple Workouts app. Nike is working on fixing this and hopefully it will be fixed soon. If you want to use the Nike Run Club app, and have heart rate data shown on your watch face, you'll need to disable your external heart rate strap and use the watch's internal heart rate monitor only.

My Polar H7 HRM works and displays during the run, on the Nike+ Run Club app. But when I end the run, there is no heart rate info shown. No average heart rate or anything. It worked before when I used the Nike + Running app. As soon as I upgraded to the Nike+ Run Club app, I lost that function. Might go back to the old app

Thanks for the info - this has saved me heaps of time trying to work out what was wrong. I have owned the Nike GPS running watch for the last several years and when apple released the series 2 watch with GPS it seemed a no brainer to update. I have an iPhone 7 plus which is ridiculous to run with due to its size so i was excited about being able to run with the watch only. As soon as i link my polar bluetooth H7 HRM to the watch the NRC app won't show heart rate. If i disconnect the Polar and use the apple watch's internal HRM then my heart rate will show up. Several tech and running websites have shown the apple watch's heart rate monitor to be surprisingly accurate (within 1-3 bpm) of a Polar but it has a little bit of a lag time. Bit disappointing that apple would release the Nike Plus running watch as a seperate entity from the other series and it as of yet doesn't support an external heart rate monitor- if you scroll through the menu option on the iPhone you can see the NRC is supposed to support a HRM but doesn't as of yet. I currently use apples workout app but will move back to NRC when the issue is fixed.

Thanks for your detailed response, djquinn. I'm trying the Strava Apple Watch app and am on the 30 day free trial of the Premium features. Do you, or does anyone reading this know of a way, whether that's with the Strava app, Apple Workouts app or otherwise, to set a heart rate training zone or alert where, for example, I can receive a beep or vibration when I reach a certain heart rate?
