Delete Garageband

In the storage section of "About my mac", it says that garage band is taking up nearly 30GB of storage space. However I have deleted the app, and used uninstaller apps to try and delete any further hidden files. But the apps can't find any files relating to GarageBand, anyone got any ideas on how to delete the files?

To Delete Garage Band you will have to

  1. install garage band off the iTunes store.
  2. wait for it to install completely
  3. click on about my mac
  4. then click on storage
  5. next you will click manage storage or just manage
  6. go to music creation
  7. in the middle of the window there will be a button to erase all data.
  8. click on it and will confirm if you want to delete it.
  9. click yes delete.
  10. and all the data will be erased
  11. now you have more Gbs.
  12. good luck

I have this problem too.

I've tried all the steps above to delete the stuff in Library. I've also done the Garage Band install and delete and it has just increased Music Creation to 2.64GB from 1.44GB in manage storage. I'm on a MacBook Air running Os Sierra 10.12.5.

Has anyone found a different solution to this issue?

section of "About my mac",

About this Mac is listing everything related to Audio as "GarageBand". If you installed Logic Pro X or MainStage all support for these applications will be listed as GarageBand as well, all Apple Loops, including the loops used by iMovie as sound effects, the instrument library with the sounds for the instruments.

Are you using any other audio applications, that may be needing the installed sounds and loops?

Files used by GarageBand or attributed to GarageBand will be in these folders:

/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/

/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/

/Library/Application Support/Logic/

and in the corresponding folders in your user library:

~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/

~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/

~/Library/Application Support/Logic/

Also in the folders

~/Music/GarageBand/

~/Music/Logic/

~/Music/MainStage/

Thanks for the quick reply, I no longer use any audio recording applications. I used to use Logic Pro and GarageBand but have deleted them both. I have also just checked the file locations you listed and they are either not there or the folder is there but empty.

And you did delete all GarageBand projects and Logic Projects? All files with the filename extension .band or .logicx ?

Are any projects still stored in iCloud?

If you used GarageBand with iCloud, check the folder

~/Library/Mobile Documents/ for a subfolder called similar to

F3LWYJ7GM7~com~apple~garageband10

or

F3LWYJ7GM7~com~apple~mobilegarageband

I believe I deleted all the projects, if I haven't, then I cant fine them to delete them. I also just checked the mobile documents folder and don't have anything related to GarageBand or Logic. 30GB is quite a lot of data, so I would have thought it would be easy to find, but really don't know where it could be.

Which system version do you have?

The category assignments in About this Mac scan be misleading.

In macOS 10.12.1 you can see exactly which files are in the named category. It will list the files no longer as "GarageBand" but as "Audio Creation Software".

I am seeing for example:

User uploaded file

Spotlight may need time to reindex your system drive after you deleted the audio software.
