Compressor 4.3 failing: "RequestFrameAt ..."

Eureka !

Today Apple posted an update for Compressor !

Before the update, the preview showed black screen and throws an error when trying to encode, but right after updating to 4.3.1, everything is working !

I didn't try other features, I suppose other new bugs have been added, so don't make the mistake, save your Compressor install before upgrading (just in case) !!! But so far, so good, it now works !

Even if it took 4 months to solve - it is solved for now, thanks !

I am sure the only developper working on this app hates me, but he shouldn't, I am not against you ! I'm with you, I just want Apple to bring you some teamates to work with you on this app instead of focusing people on useless watch projects !

Hi James,

- Deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor/ to start with new default settings doesn't solve anything.

- Upgrading to Pro Video Formats 2.0.5 doesn't work either. I did the upgrade even if my file format is Photo-Jpeg and it's not listed in Pro Formats.

I don't think the problem is related to selected output profile as the message clearly states that it cannot retrieve source image. I tried with default profiles in case my where bad, but not a single one is working. That makes me think that the problem is related to file decoding. I suppose that Compressor is trying to use some wrong lib to decode... Because 4.2.2 is working fine, I suppose they changed the way they decode content.

Here is a very short test file if you want to reproduce the problem. The file is 800Mbit/s, so I just uploaded about 1 second clip to make a small 123MB file 😉

Let me know if that works on your side. If it does, I will have to dig into Qt libs to see if some of my Qt components is creating the problem.

In console, the message is quite explicit:

01/11/16 09:36:19,972 Compressor[4659]: Error decoding frame, probably missing codec

Because previous version can decode (4.2.2), Qt can decode, the codec is present and working. Meaning Compressor 4.3 alone cannot find it...

Sorry to here that you didn't made a backup. I did the same mistake in the past...

In the meantime, you can use handbrake if you can, that's what I had to do...

You answer one of my interrogations: Is it related to 10.11 ? Clearly, it is not. Thanks for that, I won't try to upgrade now and brake more things 🙂

Another interrogation I have is that, is someone to successfully transcode my file with 4.3. If not, I don't think there is anything to do except waiting... But if someone succeeds, we will have to find the differences...

Same for your h264 files. If you want me to tests to transcode them, just drop a link to a brief extract... I already tried the h264 coming from the same cam, and no problem at all. By the way that's why I had to create a different thread than the one titled "Compressor failing on mp4 files: "RequestFrameAt ..." as MP4 is working with my files. I think the problem is similar but without any problem with MP4 until now, it's hard to confirm for the moment.
