Does my new iPhone have the same IP address as my previous devices?

Go to ipchicken.com & see if the IP is the same as the one you gave out.

Do the same thing on Wifi & when using cellular data - each one will be different.

An IP address is simply a way that networking uses to know where to send data. You iPhone is unlikely to be hacked by just knowing the IP address. It is very, very unlikely that a cell phone carrier will have given you a dedicated IP address for the phone. They normally have a 'pool' of addresses & you get a new one every so often.

Frankly you appear to be investing to much into IP addresses, they are not worth worrying about - you are far more likely to be hacked by spam, spoof email, malicious adverts or other junk on the internet.

I also see that I can obtain a new ip address by resetting network settings. Right?

Sort of - there are private (local network only) and public IP addresses (ones that can be directly accessed via the internet).

A wifi router will normally give you a local address. A cellular carrier will also normally give you a local address too. The router or carrier has their own public address that the internet uses to send data towards your device. The carrier or router translates between the two types.

IP Chicken will tell you what the public address is for the network provider or wifi router is.

When you reset the network settings it's a bit of a toss up - some wif routers will simply say 'I recognise that device, give them the same local address' whereas another device may simply give you a new local address.

Carriers are more wary about giving you a new address - they have thousands of devices to deal with & can't afford to hand new ones out all the time.

Whatever happens with your local address IP Chicken will probably list the same public address – you normally exit onto the internet from the same ISP or carrier unless you are roaming from one network to another.

That is far more confusing than I had hoped but I hope it helps 🙂

That makes sense as I'm seeing different public addresses (the addresses shows in ipchic, whatsmyip) each time I reset my network settings. I've reset it twice just to see if it were some glitch error or something but no they are infact different address. I just thought it were interesting but anyway since the public address is different now I should be in the clear either way?

As important as having your IP address may or not be to a hacker, your device also has to have open "ports" for the hacker to exploit and access.

Having your IP address is but one piece of a puzzle.

If you are concerned, find your current IP and hit up one of the sites that offers to scan your IP address looking for open ports to gain access. I think you'll find there are none.

As mentioned earlier... the naive public gives away way more sensitive data than is ever gained by hacking.

The scam "wanna see naked pictures of <insert celebrity name here>? Click the link and enter your Apple ID and password." sadly works. : (
