events in chinese added to my calendar

when i woke my macbook from sleep this morning, many events, in chinese, had been added to my calendar, starting tomorrow, 2 nov 2016. they had also been added to my icould calendar. i deleted the first event & all it's recurrence: all the events in chinese were removed. however, the originator was notified.

i think that my icloud calendar was hacked, because the macbook was asleep all night. how do i stop them from re-occurring?

i'm using a macbook air, early 2014, os x 10.11.16.

MacBook Air, iOS 10.1.1

Examine your Mail settings on OS X & iOS. Apparently there is a setting 'automatically add calendar invites' from emails.

Turn that option off if you can find it.

I have different iOS & OS X version to you so I cannot be specific.

It seems like a terrible idea that allows spammers to insert junk into other applications.

If you cannot delete the events try moving them to another calendar - other users on this site report that works for them.

Weird. Now they are showing up on my calendar on my phone, but not my wife's. Nothing has changed since I adjusted the settings. Maybe I need to reset my Apple ID?

I'd suggest you look at this post too…

Spam Calendar Invites

Andrew Mcvinnie explains how iCloud is setup to receive calendar events over email - that may be from a spammer.

Changing the Mail settings will not remove the events as far as I understand. The events were added to your calendar (probably by spammers). You need to remove them manually.

I don't know why they went from your spouses device, it is not totally clear to me how they are linked & how you removed them.

Look around these forums, there are other cases discussed. As far as I can see they are not sinister hacks, just a terrible default option that allows anyone to add to your calendar simply by emailing you. Seek help at an Apple store if you feel that will make any difference and/ or post feedback.

If you feel iCloud was hacked use the regular recourse to resolve that (password resets, enable 2 step/ 2 factor, change associated passwords)…
