can't copy files to FAT32 USB drive without Authenticating every time

Make it stop aggravating my carpal tunnel and wasting my time.

So much is broken these days...

Get Info on the USB drive says "you can read & write" but the lock & ability to change Permssions is not present. Because its FAT32.

So the problem must be in El Capitan, not the USB drive.

I can't be typing my password 50 times in order to copy these files !@!!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, firstname lastname!
It appears that your FAT32 formatted USB drive isn't allowing you to to move/copy files onto it unless you provide a password each time. I'll be glad to help.
OS X El Capitan: Use external storage devices

If you don’t have permission to view or work with files on a storage device

If you are not the administrator of the Mac, ask the administrator to give you access to the files you need.

Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility -- If you're already logged into the Administrator profile, use this article to repair the permissions on the USB drive.

Take care!

Disk Utility has been emasculated in El Cap -- Can't repair permissions anymore, on any drive. Onyx etc only allow on the boot drive.

Looking for a utility that will do repair permissions -- the Command Line is difficult to work with, and I've read it screws up your Home directory permissions.

Wonder if Disk Utility from OSX 10.6.8 will run on an El Cap machine?

There are no permissions on a FAT volume. There is nothing to repair. You have some other problem.

All drives are mounted to /Volumes/

If you are writing to a directory in /Volumes/, but it is not actually writing to the flash drive, you have a "phantom" mount point. Eject the flash drive and see if the mount point for it still exists in /Volumes (something like /Volumes/flashDriveName/).

If it does, copy all of the files in that directory to another folder on your Mac as you may need to copy them back onto the flash drive if we can make it work again.

Once you've copied the data out of the phantom mount point, delete that folder--Make sure you are not confusing it with a drive that is actually mounted.

Then, reattach the flash drive and see if it mounts correctly and you can read/write.
