Did you ever find a solution? I'm having the same problem. I've tried suggestions I've found elsewhere like making sure I have the most recent version of itunes and that my computer (Macbook Pro OS 10.6.8) and phone (iphone SE) have all software updates. I've tried a different USB cord. I've also tried turning off icloud options for photos and music, then signing out of icloud completely. I went to settings for itunes and signed out and back in with that password. I've plugged in my phone when locked and gone to the home screen to enter my phone passcode, and plugged in my phone when unlocked. My laptop is not recognizing my iphone in finder folders either. My iphone is prompting me to trust or not trust the computer when connected, and I've selected trust. I'm receiving errors on my laptop from both iphoto (Photos in the Camera Roll on "iPhone" cannot be viewed or imported because the iPhone is locked with a passcode) and itunes (iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “iPhone” because an invalid response was received from the device). This started when my old iphone 5 broke and i replaced it with an iphone SE. I'm in the process of getting everything set up with my SE and hope I can resolve this. Please help!

I have same problem. I am thinking that last update iPhone 10.1.1 needs fix. I connect my iPhone via USB to desktop and iPhoto doesn't open automatically anymore. I open iPhoto manually and it requests entry of iPhone passcode then asks "Distrust or Trust" this computer. I tried all this and still zilch...........

***Why should it ask me to "Trust or Distrust" a computer which I am connecting to directly and intentionally ?

I think maybe this was intended for users who store photos in iCloud possibly via wi-fi. I believe i read something like that when I took that update. I don't have a solution yet but you may follow my discussion also >>>> jaxworldmax

Thank you for your reply. It happened after I did last update on iPhone 10.11 ( as you said). I put in passcode, I click "Trust" button when popup message comes up...and I can't still transfer my photos using iPhoto or Image Capture. I followed a few instructions that other people suggested to solve the problem, but it didn't help. I realised that when I open iTunes, it can't recognise my phone? Maybe if I manage to sync the iPhone with iTunes that would solve the other problem too? Please if you have a solution let me know. Thanks.

I have opened iTunes also seeking a solution. It does not recognize my iPhone. I do not store my "tunes" in iPhone because my storage there is too small. I can however hear my entire music library through my iPhone when connected to my home or other wi-fi. (I store all my tunes, music videos and playlists on an iPod, which has the capacity to hold my large library but I will someday also store on newer iPhone with larger 128GB storage).

*Anyway why would I have to "sync" to iTunes before I can "sync" to iPhoto ?

Others have also sent me "solutions" which haven't worked for me yet either, but you may follow the conversations perhaps by clicking on my discussions. I still believe my iPhoto problem was created after I took the iPhone 10.1.1 update which either did not consider my direct connection capabilities previously and/or was intended for the majority who now store photos in the iCloud.
