iPhone 7 camera is slow to focus and take photos

I am a photographer and absolutely love using my iphone to take photos, I use it on a daily basis and have always been so happy with it.

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 7 and I noticed almost immediately that when I pressed the button to take a photo, the camera would unfocus itself and then try to find focus again, finally taking the shot. It can take anywhere up to 2 seconds for this to happen sometimes. I take a lot of photos of my kids and up until now have had no issues using the iPhone camera to do so but since upgrading to iPhone 7 nearly every single image is blurry/out of focus. Even the images that aren't obviously blurry aren't close to as how sharp they were on the iPhone 6.

My main reason for having an iPhone is to take photos and to use photo apps. Is this a native problem with the iPhone 7 or is this something that is wrong with my device? I am up to date with software, no other problems with the phone, am I missing something obvious?

Any help much appreciated, I wouldn't be keen to keep the phone if this were just how it performed.

Thank you,

K x

hi!

I had the excact same issue, Went from an 5s to 7 and the camera performed way slower than the 5s, i could take up to 1-2 seconds Before the Picture was taken.

When i bought my 7 128gb in late september 2016 there were no threads or other people with the same issue so i keept on using the phone. ofc i hade made soft / hard reset and all other things to make sure its not a software problem.

Recently i got my iPhone 7 exchanged ( gps issue )for a new and the camera is now snappy and fast.

Finally i can use the camera on my phone!

Hopefully its just a handfull of 7 out there with this problem, my suggestion is to have the phone replaced or at least compared in store with Another 7 to make the retailer see the problem.

Just wanted to share my story, a hope you guys will be replaced with new phone because its clearly a problem!

Hi ThePeoplesKelbo,

I can see from your post that you’re having issues with your iPhone 7 camera being out of focus or blurry when attempting to take pictures. I understand how important it is for the camera to work as expected, and want to do all we can to help with this.
Make sure there is no protective film that is over the lens from when you took it out of the box. If you currently have your iPhone in a protective case, remove the case and try the camera again. These suggestions and more are included in the link below.

Any luck with this? I have the same problem. Upgraded from an iPhone 5s so that I could take better pictures. Unfortunately I miss almost all the pictures I want to take. I'll press the shutter button and it often takes 1-2 seconds to snap a photo. I have 80gb of storage, went through the guide the other person posted, and no other lag in the phone. It's snappy, but not when taking photos. My iPhone 5s doesn't have this issue. Really disappointed with this given the camera on this phone is supposed to be so great (according to Apple).

I am having a similar problem. My iPhone 7 (not Plus)is not only slow, but will often release the shutter when the subject is out of focus. Last night, for example, I took photos indoors at a birthday party and all of them were out of focus. Lighting in the restaurant was not dark, so I was very surprised that it had trouble locking on the subject.

Worse, the camera hunted around for focus, just as you described, taking a long time to release the shutter, and went right past an in-focus shot as it hunted around before settling on an out-of-focus one to record.

I've never had a problem with any of my iPhones like this. I'm frankly wondering if it's a hardware problem.
