Hey all. Just bought a Series 1 watch and I'm not seeing the "Friends" app. Neither on the phone app or on the watch itself. Am I missing a setting somewhere to make it show up?

Under watchOS 3, the Friends feature (which was available under prior versions) is no longer included and there is no direct replacement for it.
When placing calls or sending new messages, contacts can instead be selected via the Phone and Messages apps or by using Siri:
