ios 10.1.1 install freeze on iphone 6s

I sought to update my iphone 6s to ios 10.1.1 thru wifi. It started through the update but in the restart, it got stuck and just alternately flashed the apple logo, then goes blank. Occasionally it will flash a grayed screen then back to the apple. I tried restart (home & off buttons) multiple times. I can shut it down finally. Upon restart, it goes back to the stuck pattern. I connected to an updated itunes and finally got it to connect. It told me there was a problem and gave me the option to update or restore. I tried both multiple (many) times to no avail. Generally I got error 1671. I followed the advice to correct that (disable all antivirus and move the windows sys 32 drivers etc "host" file to the desktop and restart itunes) - then do an update. I tried both update and restore but nothing works. Itunes says it is downloading software and will update the phone but it eventually times out and disconnects the phone. So how do I recover my phone? - it is dead and useless at this point.

Hello WPACK,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how important it is to get your iPhone working again and I'd like to help. At this point, if restoring has been unsuccessful I'd recommend using recovery mode as described in the article below.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Afterwards, you may be able to recover your data if you have a backup. Have a look at the article below for help with that:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Take care.

I'm also having a similar issue. I tried updating the latest 10.1.1 update (the second one) via iTunes. Update wasn't successful and now my devices is stuck in recovery mode and iTunes gives a 4005 error. I've tried all of the steps suggested to resolve a 4005 error including a brand new computer with a fresh install of iTunes and brand new Apple lightning cable and still get the 4005 error. I was able to go to the Apple store and have then recover it and it was working but then I went to update to the second 10.1.1 update and it did it again.

I have had a couple reports of this issue, the main way to resolve this issue is to update via iTunes, always make sure that your device has a recent backup prior to updating due to the fact that you want to keep all your data safe just in case. If you do end up needing to restore the device to factory settings then you can place that backup right back on the device and you'll have lost no content!!

Hope this helps!
