Insane Verification Code Loop

Tonight, while trying to watch a movie on Apple TV that I rented from iTunes, I have been asked roughly a dozen times to input my Apple ID, then my password, and then a verification code.

Every time I went through that process, and finished with the verification code, I was sent back to start again, re-input my apple Id and password, and then a NEW verification code that was sent to my iPhone, which I would input, only to be asked to go back and start again, to re-input my Apple Id and password, which generated a new Apple Verification code sent to my iPhone, which I had to input in my Apple TV, which sent me back AGAIN. ETC.

At first I thought it was happening because I was always one step behind, inputting a previous verification code when I should have been inputting a newer one. Ultimately I realized it was all a cosmic joke. I was being tested. After I threw my Apple Remote against the wall, I decided to try to watch Netflix instead. But I was now locked in Verification code ****. I couldn't even exit to get out of the Verification code input process.

I'm a dedicated Apple lover, but this is a hateful, miserable system and it makes me doubt my love. It should be banished to the fires of ****. But until then, I need help to get in. So that's why I'm here.

I have two-factor authentication enabled and I was stuck in this username-password-verification code loop for days. Finally I just logged out (iCloud and the iTunes store) on the Apple TV (I have the 3rd gen), restarted, and then logged in to both again. This worked for me. Hope it helps someone else!

next time, just unplug the ATV and let it sit there for 5-10 minutes. plug it back in and try it again...it doesn't hurt to check for software updates too...

Unplugging and waiting 5 - 10 minutes won't help in any way.

You should be able to append the code to your password and enter that (i.e. if your password is ABC and your code is 123, enter ABC123), however if this doesn't work, you may want to temporarily disable the 2 step verification/2 factor authentication while you log in.

Thanks. I disabled the 2-step verification system and managed to get in. I think I'll let it stay this way for a while.

You should be able to use it as described above, however I think if it's 2 factor authentication that's being used, there might also be the added complication that codes expire quite quickly.
