If I understand what you are asking, you are seeing that message about the security recommendation under the Network Name when you log into the hotel WiFi. You don't have to bypass that in order to connect to their WiFi. That's a built in suggestion that iOS produces when you use an unsecured WiFi network. It doesn't mean that you can't use the network or that you have to bypass anything.
Just log in and practice safe and reasonable surfing practices when you use an unsecured network. Limit yourself to basic web surfing, reading email, watch videos or whatever like to do. Don't do your banking, pay bills or enter any private information that could be stolen on an unsecured network.
OK then, consult admin or customer service desk for access privileges or private Wi-Fi credentials check support article: How iOS decides which wireless network to auto-join - Apple Support .Good Day!
Such a simple step.. I don't know why I didn't try that before coming to the thread.
Thanks for your help!! 😁😁😁
I don't get it. The n ny IPhone 6 with OS10, my browsers just sit there whirring and I have to shut off wifi in hotels, restaurants, etc. A royal pain!!!!
I'm not sure what to tell you. It works for me virtually all of the time. My iPhone 5s and my iPad Air 2 are both running iOS 10.2 and I am able to connect to these networks. Sometimes, I have to forget the network and try to log on again and once in a while it will take two or three tries, but by and large I have great success connecting to the unsecured networks.
There's nothing to bypass. The security recommendation is simply telling you the level of security on the network you are accessing. What are you actually seeing when you try to access these networks?
You don't get it. I have no problem connecting to these unsecured networks, that is what I am saying. I connect to them all the time. Do you think that I have special Apple privileges and that you don't? I don't think so. What I said to whitefishgirl99 is that I don't know what to tell her with regard to connecting to the network since as a rule, I have no issue connecting to them.
I don't give advice here in ASC without being reasonably sure I that I am giving a correct answer or a valid suggestion. Sure I make mistakes, more than my share in fact, but of this I am certain, this has nothing to do with Apple.
Sorry, my bad!
I should have read the complete posts; it was obvious your reply was proper.
I go to Starbucks at least twice a week to meet people, and Apple refuses to let me on the network. I've had the same problem at other restaurants also. I'm frustrated, and took it out on you. Apologies!
Apple isn't refusing to let you on the network. In any branch of Starbucks on any given day hundreds of people are happily using Apple devices on Starbucks' wifi. What makes you think Apple is "refusing" to let you, specifically, do the same? As I asked earlier, what happens when you try to connect?
Starbucks' log in screen pops up, I accept terms, sign-in starts, log-in screen goes blank except for log-in title. Then nothing happens.
I go to settings screen, Wi-Fi and network show as Google (security recommendation). I put the phone down for 5 minutes or so, look at it on Verizon LTE, shut it off, put in my pocket.
I've been having the same problem as well. My wife was not having the same problem with her iPhone so I knew there had to be an issue somewhere. What surprisingly worked for me was just rebooting (powering down) the phone. That did the trick.
Thanks. I did that today, and it worked after a few minutes. Very frustrating.
It's fine for Apple to save us from ourselves, but if I'm dumb enough to connect to anything of a sensitive nature, I'm to blame, not Apple. Apple shouldn't prevent me from doing it; warning me is great, stopping me is not.
I agree, it's getting so bad between Apple and Microsoft. Cramming updates down our throats and giving us less or even no control on what the updates are updating. It should be our choice, not theirs.
I've found if you try to go through the available networks it won't let you. If you restart your phone then open safari, the hotel or other network should come up and you can read their stuff and 'continue to connect'. This seems to hold the connection for longer
Hi
If you travel a lot the best way round this is to buy a MIFI dongle
They can run up to 10 devices iPhone /iPad & android
Buy from mobile phone shop contact / or pay & go
Then you have your own mobile router with wireless key .
Cheers
Brian
