Hi Jonathan

My watch is already paired with my IPhone 7. When I want to activate auto unlock on my mac I get the message to get my watch connected through Bluetooth but then it does not recognise the watch.

Hi

The following steps may help:

  • On your Mac: check that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled.
  • On your iPhone: check that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled:

    Settings > Bluetooth, Settings > Wi-Fi.

  • Check that your Mac and iPhone are connected to the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • Check that your Apple Watch is on your wrist and unlocked.
  • Check that your Apple Watch is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth:

When viewing the time on your watch, swipe up on the watch face to open Control Centre > check that your watch states Connected with the icon of a green phone.

  • Check that your Apple ID is using two-factor authentication (as opposed to two-step verification):
  • Check that your Mac and Apple Watch are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID:
    • On your Mac, choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
    • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then go to General > Apple ID.
    • It may help to sign out and sign back in on your Mac.
  • Check that your Apple Watch is using a passcode:
    • On your iPhone, open the Watch app, then tap Passcode.
    • If the option is presently enabled, try turning off Unlock with iPhone.
  • Check that Handoff is enabled on each of your iPhone and your Mac:
    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > General > Handoff.
    • On your Mac, go to: System Preferences > General - near the bottom, check the option for "Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices".
    • If these settings are already enabled, it may help to disable and re-enable Handoff on each device.
  • On your iPhone, check that iCloud Keychain is enabled:

Settings > iCloud > Keychain - turn on iCloud Keychain.

  • Try moving your Apple Watch closer to your Mac.

They need to be very close for the feature to work.

  • Try restarting all three devices.
  • Keep in mind that, after setting up the feature, your password will still need to be entered manually the first time that you log in.
