MalwareBytes

I use MalwareBytes from time to time. Whenever I've launched the program, it usually updates the signatures first of all (and displays a little progress bar to show me). However, a couple of days ago, as I was using it, another box appeared asking me to upgrade the latest version 1.2.5.715. I did upgrade it. Since then, the programme has not updated its signatures when I launch it. Even when I manually chose the option to update signatures today, nothing happened – it says the last signature file was three days ago! Has anyone else had this?

I'm running macOS Sierra.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

You can ask Malware bytes of course, but the signature files don't get updated very often. I wouldn't worry about that: here are the last three in the scanner log file on my MBP (the log gets updated when you do a scan, like I just did):

2016-10-07 14:00:17 : ----- Scan Started -----

2016-10-07 14:00:17 : Scanning with signatures version 126 (2016-9-29)

2016-10-07 14:00:25 : *** Scan time: 0d 00:00:07 ***

While just now I've updated to the latest version MalwareBytes for Mac (same numbers)

and before that read info from the About MalwareBytes in dropdown menu bar; the last

date of signature scan is the same after the update as it was before.

Mine said 'signature file version 139' (2016-11-03) so that did not appear to have changed.

The version build 1.2.5.x.x.x relates to which macOS/OS X the software is loaded into.

Mt Lion 10.8.5 cannot use the 1.2.5 version, MalwareBytes for Mac has special 1.2.4.xx

for this older OS X that is not supported by latest 1.2.5.

You may try & contact malwarebytes (mac) support for more info; and their forums:

'MalwareBytes for Mac' discussions area for Mac inquiry, info, & answers.

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/

The different changes are noted in their product info, and in Mac version discussions.

Other user comments from this past Thursday seem to include version 1.2.5 topics.

{Note moderator 'treed' Thomas, from AdwareMedic; it merged w/malwarebytes.}

In any event...

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac does still update signatures when you open it. You should note that the signatures do not necessarily get updated every day. The Mac threat landscape is very different from Windows. Some days, the signatures may get updated multiple times. Other times, they may not get updated for a week. There's no point in updating the signatures if no new threats have been found.

Also, for future questions about Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac, I'd echo K Shaffer's advice to use the Malwarebytes forums. That gives you a more direct way to get help with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. You can also contact support directly, if you're having some kind of a problem, by choosing Contact Support from the Help menu within the app.
