My old trackpad is one of the originals and I really love it, but I can't get it to connect to my new iMac. New batteries, disconnect the magic mouse, reboot, turn off bluetooth and turn back on, nothing seems to work. Is this an issue with the old not working with the new? Any suggestions?
iPad, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)
I fixed it by holding SHIFT + OPTION and clicking on the bluetooth icon in the menu bar. Then Debug > reset Bluetooth Module and it worked perfectly!

I think you've hit the nail on the head, Maryanne. I have been trying for weeks to get the Apple people to spell out the limitations of the old trackpads, mice and keyboards ... so far without success. I'll keep working on it.

Got it to pair by removing it from my device list, and turning it off. When I turned it on again it asked to be paired.
