What cause the names of the photo albums to change randomly a week or two after sync?

I have an IPad Air and it's doing a strange thing. I always upgrade the IOS whenever a new version is available. The names of my photo albums will randomly change a week or two after I sync my Ipad. I then have to re-sync to get the correct album names back. The album names will change from the folders I selected during sync to non-selected folders on my computer. The strange thing is the pics are right but are now randomly scattered across the bogus albums. I'll have a hot air balloon album that now has waterfalls and birds, no hot air balloons. Everything looks fine for about a week or two when I re-sync, then POW!!! it all changes again by itself.

Please assist

Thanks

Hi. Your problem is caused by mixing the incompatible concepts of Folders and Albums. iOS Photos stores all photos together in the Camera Roll. You can think of it as a folder, but it's really just a collection. The albums are virtual selections from the collection. You can think of them as lists selecting items from the Camera Roll. Each photo can be in one or more albums, or in no albums. As you can see, this is quite different to the concept of folders holding individual files. There have been other posts on this over the years, but I don't think there is any complete solution, save using an iPhoto app on an Apple computer.

Hi Diana,

From your reply I guess I'v been lucky for the past six years that this hasn't happened earlier. This is not my first IPad. I still have my original IPad and the problem has not occurred on it. It only started happening when I got my new IPad Air this year. I just want to make sure you understand what's happening.

When I connect my IPad to my laptop and launch ITunes I can select my IPad to sync. Under IPad photos I can choose the location of the photos on my laptop. It then gives me the option of checking "all folders" or "selected folder" to sync to my IPad. I I check selected folders, a list of folders appear. I check which folder I want copied to my IPad. Once checked I sync. Once sync is completed I can select the photos icon on my iPad and under Albums tab I only see the folders I selected to sync, the camera roll is on the same page but above the My Albums heading. Everything looks great after the sync. After a week or two I get the the wrong albums names and the pics are divided between them.

I also have an IPhone and this does not happen on it and I sync the exact same way.

Is there a fix?

Thanks

Straight after each update for the past 2 or 3 years my synced photos have got messed up. Albums that I used to have on my iPad (but which I removed a number of years ago) have re-appeared, with my currently synced photos spread throughout those albums (each album has the number of photos that used to be in them, they just contain a seemingly random selection of my current synced photos) - I still have the correct synced albums as well as the wrong ones.

The way I fix it is to reconnect to my computer, de-select one of my albums (the one with the fewest photos), sync, and then re-select that album and re-sync

I have no idea what Diana talked about. It doesn't even sound like it's related to your question. Sorry, Diana. I can however relate to King Penguin's experience.

For the past few years, when I update iOS, my synchronized photo albums get scrambled after every iOS update. It is exactly the same as your experience but mine is triggered by iOS update. If I don't update iOS, my sync'd albums remain the same.

Your problem seems more severe if your sync'd albums get scrambled for no reason. Try factory restoring the device.
