Startup disk full, computer won't turn on at all

Hi,

I have had the startup disk full message coming get up recently. Haven't had time to sit down and clear it but to tonight when my mac book batteries died and I charged it the computer don't want to start up. What should I do? Is it the "startup disk full" that caused this?

If the disk is full the computer will fail to start. Restarting in Safe Mode (restart and hold the shift key until the Apple icon appears) may free up enough space to allow it to start. If so, immediately look for files you can move to an external drive. Media files (music, videos & digital photos) are quite large so they are probably the best things to look for quickly. Apple recommends about 15-20GB of free space.
