No, Apple does not accept prepaid debit cards that you buy from a store.
You will know what payment methods are acceptable where you live when you establsih your account in the iTunes or Mac App Store using your Apple ID. These are the options that I see for my US account.

Alright. Thank you! What's wierd is that even though I redeem an iTunes card, it still won't let me use it to download apps. Do you know why?
How much was the card? How much is the app?
$25 and it's a Free Fantasy football app. I can't even use it to update apps.
Please explain in detail what happens when you try to get the free app?
Does your account show that you have a $25 credit available?
It gives me a little window that says Verification Required. However, it shows that I have a credit of $25 dollars. So I hit the verify button, and it takes me to the payment management screen.
Sign out of your account, quit the app and restart your Mac. Open the app, sign into your account and try to get the app again. If you run into the same issue please post a screenshot of what comes up. Mask any personal information before posting.

I tried that. It works fine now. Thank you for your help!
Can I use a green dot card as a payment method for the App Store?
