Citrine,

Sorry, but I am a bit confused by this - you have not really provided much information here...

Are you attempting to connect to a Windows machine? In this case you need to have a username and password which is valid for that machine. For this you will need to speak to whoever looks after that machine. If they create a user for you - or give you the login details for a user which already exists, then just use that username and password.

If this is not the case, please reply with more clarification...

Hope that helps,

Jerry

Ah, OK then, that was not what I was thinking of at all!

If you are being asked for a password when trying to open Classic, it sounds like a permissions problem. Are you logged in as an administrator? It is not always a good idea to work as admin - better to work as standard user. However if the permissions are not correct that could stop a standard user from opening Classic. Also, are you a managed user, it is possible to set restrictions on an account which would prevent you from opening Classic.

You could try repairing OS 9 permissions. You can find Apple's instructions for doing this by following this link.

A few other things to try are here.

Try these, if they do not fix it, it may also be worth trying to repair the OS X permissions too, to ensure that True Blue environment (the OS X component which runs Classic) can operate correctly.

Let me know how that goes...

Hi citrine!

Your computer specs read as g4 Mac OS 9.1.x & g4 Mac OS X (10.0.x).

Is that a typo, or are you using OS 10.0.x. Tiger is OS 10.4.x.
Under the blue apple, in the menubar, click on About This Mac. What version is displayed?
If it is not 10.4.x, then you should be posting your questions in this Category Mac OS X v10.3 & earlier.

You are receiving information here, that pertains to Tiger, and may not pertain to your situation.

Good Luck!

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant.

When you first created your user account (usually when installing or boot into the first boot environment - where it asks for name etc for registration), it would have asked you to enter a password for that account.

Try just hitting return (some people use a blank password - very bad idea really!), Also try any passwords you use frequently. You may just have forgotten that you created a password.

Otherwise, as James in Paris said, you can reset your password. Be careful when doing this - it will mean you will no longer be able to access your keychain. The keychain is where all saved passwords are stored - for Email accounts, password for websites, servers and so on. You will lose all of these - so may find yourself in a worse situation - try figuring out your password first!

Good luck...

Jerry
