How to transfer medical images (ultrasonogrpahy images) from sonogrpahy machine to macbook air? cam male to male USB cable be used?

Need to know how to transfer medical images from my ultrasound machine (static sonography images of patient stored on harddisc of the machine) to macbook air?. My ultrasound machine has USB port. Wanted to know if male to male USB cable can be of use or if I should just copy images on USB stick and view these images on MBA ; although the second option looks an easy one, would be time consuming.

MacBook Air, null

USB cable? does the sonography machine have a USB cable for file transfer or for connectivity to a PC where it can have internal firmware updated?

How do the people at the medical facility get images off the device? what type of system is it? have you contacted the manufacturer? All systems are not the same, simply plugging in a cable does not necessarily facilitate a file transfer because you need to do that.

several options I can think of would all require a windows solution

Bootcamp is built into OS X which requires a working licensed copy of Windows and requires you to boot into Windows.

Parallels or VMWAre fusion which would also require a working licensed copy of Windows, let you boot into windows with OS X still running which is not possible in bootcamp.

Wine, which is free and can run Windows software in mac with some finesse of the end user needed, but you don't need windows installed. Wine is free.

and Crossover, which is similar to Wine but takes out much of the guesswork, and it's not free.

Instead of a flash drive I'd probably use a hard drive. Several companies are now making small portable SSD drives. I'm not recommending this one particularly but the picture gives a clear idea of how small it is. I've no experience with radiology equipment - I'm so far behind the curve there I remember when it was a PC only venture - so I don't know what would happen if you simply plugged the device into the Mac with a USB cable: would it mount like a hard drive or require special software? Your best bet would be to contact the vendor.
