MacOS Messages missing contact photos/avatars
MacOS Messages is not showing the avatar/contact photos for my chat correspondent. Instead, I see a gray circle with the correspondent's initials. Advice?
Thanks very much.

What is safe mode?
Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following:
- Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
- Loads only required kernel extensions
- Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
- Disables user-installed fonts
- Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
Together, these changes can help resolve or isolate issues related to your startup disk.
Thanks so very much. Good tip to turn on the View, "Show All Buddy Pictures..." I did that and followed the Safe Mode suggestion. Unfortunately, I still get the gray circle with initials for my correspondent. The correspondent's photo does not show in Contacts. However, the photo does appear in Contacts and Messages on my iOS devices. I'm using Exchange.
Thanks again.
One more thought: Outlook 2016 running on the same machine shows the photos as expected.
Hi,
Is Outlook the sync service for both the Mac and iPhone ?
If there is no sync or one end is not matching what you think it should be you get the initials rather than pics.

Dear Becky,
Thanks. Adding the contact photo again on the Mac in Contacts seemed to work. Thanks very much.
