CS6 not working on Sierra - please help!

I tried installing the

Download Java for OS X 2015-001

but it didn't fix it.

Looks like Illustrator CS6 is fine.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I can work with a file, but as soon as I close the window, Photoshop quits as well. Have to keep restarting.

As a graphic designer, this super doesn't work. Help!

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

Hi Ian

I just updated to Sierra today (in order to use new live streaming software) and then I immediately started having problems with both Photoshop and Illustrator. Like MeggsIrishEyes, I downloaded the legacy Java for OS X 2015-001, so now I can open CS6 Illustrator, but it didn't fix my CS6 Photoshop issues. Right now, I can't do anything in Photoshop except for open it. It crashes everytime I try to search for and open any file.

Do you have any suggestions? I have no idea what to do next. I'd be very grateful for your insights on this.

Thank you, Tina

Hi MeggsIrishEyes! “I can work with a file, but as soon as I close the window, Photoshop quits as well. Have to keep restarting…”

I had exactly the same problem with CS6 after upgrading to Sierra. I found a workaround. Instead of having “free-floating files” (standard setting) in the main window they have to be “anchored” in their own tab by making sure the following CS6 preference is checked. (At this point I must apologise for the fact that I live in Germany and use CS6 in German, so the 2 enclosed screenshots show CS6 in German, but the layout should be the same in English and I´m sure the necessary checkbox will be in the same place!)

Go to CS6 Preferences, and under what´s probably called “User interface” make sure this box which I think is called “Open documents in Tabs” or similar is checked, quit and restart CS6.

You now get each file or files opened with their own tab, like in, say, Safari!

You can have as many files open at the same time as you like, and closing one or all will no longer crash CS6. I´ve actually found this way of working with files in CS6 to be better, but that´s just my opinion, and I´m not a graphics pro! Hope this helps you out!! Otherwise I´ve found CS6 works fine under Sierra. Cheers, Ian (sorry the screenshots are a bit small)

Hello Ian! I suppose that's a reasonable workaround although annoying.

I actually do not care for the tabbed view. I prefer the individual windows.

However, I tested it and can pull windows into individuals as long as I put them back in tabs before closing the window.

It will work. I'm just beyond irritated that CS6 isn't being allowed to continue like normal. I really don't want to pay $600 per year to use CC when I have a perfectly good Photoshop already.

Thank you so much, Ian. I will do this workaround until I hear anything else...

Anyone else have a fix, not just a workaround?

Hi MeggsIrish Eyes! I couldn´t agree more with you about the extreme irritation Adobe is causing us CS6 users! 😠 This

to my mind "customer-unfriendly" policy regarding major (and extremely expensive) software is one reason I abandoned

FileMaker a year ago! Until maybe a fix turns up I hope you can at least get partly used to the window tabs...I´ve been using CS6 like this since Sierra appeared! Cheers, Ian
