Keyboard has no passcode

I have an Apple BlueTooth keyboard. When I click to connect in System Preferences > BlueTooth, a message shows "Please enter a passcode to use with this device. To complete pairing with another BlueTooth device you need a passcode. Passcodes are only used once, and then ***they do not need to be remembered.*** The same passcode needs to be entered on both the computer and the remote BlueTooth device."

I STRONGLY disagree. Obviously, one needs to remember the passcode. How else can one type it???? Nothing on the screen shows a passcode. If I had known the system would "Test" my memory, I would have taken a screen shot.

My question now is how can I get a new passcode to use this keyboard? Is the keyboard now a brick our can it be sued? If it can be sued, how??? Where can I get a passcode???
