why does Sierra delay new folders, also delay when pressing return/enter

I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.1 on a MBP (Retina,Mid 2012).

When I request to create a new folder there is a 3 to 4 second delay before anything happens, then when it does finally appear I can't always name it. To name it, I must hit the return key, just clicking on it no longer allows me to name/re-name it. When I finally get it named/re-named, there is another 3 to 4 second delay before anything happens. Very irritating.

Is anyone else having this problem? If this can't be fixed, I'm going back to El Capitan.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

Shut down your Mac and restart it in "Safe Mode". To learn how to do that please read: Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up. Compare how your Mac works in Safe Mode to how it has been.

Then, restart normally. If the same problem returns, please read the section If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode for Apple's recommended actions.

Finally, you can temporarily create a new User Account, and log in to that account to determine if the problem also exists when logged in to that Account. To learn how to do that read How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. When you are finished troubleshooting, you can remove the temporary User Account by following these instructions: macOS Sierra: Delete a user or group. Before removing it, confirm you don't need any of the files you might have created in that Account.

Let me know what you determine.

Hi,

I've done the start in safe mode and the problem is not there that way. I restarted normally and the problem seems to have cleared up. It does seem to be a little hesitant, but that could just be my imagination. Why would just starting in safe mode clear up the problem?

I don't know how to find the section you refer to, ("if an issue doesn't happen in safe mode"). I would like to read what Apple has to say about that.

If I'm still uncertain, I'll try the other user account you mentioned.

Hi,

If I had followed your instructions the way you first listed them I would have solved the issue much sooner, but no, I thought I could skip steps.

Oh well, I finally did follow those instructions and the problem is resolved. Thank you.

I've also made up a folder with info to myself on this issue. It may be worth trying for other issues as well. Now, I just have to remember about this folder, and where I put it.

Thanks again
