iPhone 7 Plus Matte Black Paint Chipped

I have been using iPhone 7 Plus Matt Black for about one month with fully covered by a TPU casing and full screen tempered glass most of the time. I just open the casing once a week to wipe the dust off from the phone. Until yesterday when I take off the casing, and notice there is something at the edge of the phone body next to UP Volume button. At first I thought it just the dust. I try to wipe it using microfibre cloth as usual. Until I look closely it is the metal part of the body. It seems that the black anodised paint had been chipped off from the phone body. I am really disappointed with what happen to the phone because I was using it very careful.

I have chat with Apple Customer Support and it is not covered under warranty since it is under cosmetic damage. Seems that the anodised paint quality on iPhone 7 is same as what is on iPhone 5. The iPhone 7 body paint will chipped at anytime regardless you are using it very careful. Just to share with you guys šŸ˜‰User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

I finally convinced them to replace mine just two days ago. The matte finish looked as though it was rubbing off in some places. I just think I finally talked to the right person. While apple does not recognize cosmetic issues as replacement worth due to the phone still functioning perfectly, I played to the point that I own multiple devices and plan on preordering the X. They talked to their supervisor and they decided to replace it as a one time only courtesy. Just be nice and understanding with the person you talk to. They are constrained to the decision of apple on what is and is not replaced. They are only doing their job. You can catch more bees with honey.

Ok so I called Apple support and the set me up a repair appointment. The closed location to me was a Best Buy 2.5 hours away. I showed up on time and the tech said there was nothing he could do. He said they could not do a warranty replacement in store anyways. He would have to send it off for repair and most likely Apple would charge me for the repair of my paint problem. So after driving for 5 hours I call Apple support again. I get transferred to a senior specialist which tell me that cosmetic damage would not be covered under any circumstance without Apple care Plus protection.

I explained to Apple that there is no ā€œdamageā€ on the phone. The phone stayed in a case and comes out for a cleaning every now and then. There is not a scratch in this phone. And not I have little dots and a big spot above the power button. None of he stress effected could be caused by abuse. If I hold my phone op to light and look at the glare I notice many more areas that will likely lose paint. I have had this phone for 12 months and let me tell you within the last month things have gotten much worse. I can only imagine what this phone is going to look like next year.

I have come to expect a level of quality from Apple and this is not the quality I have come to expect. In all the years and Apple products I have never had an agent of Apple tell me no. I spent about $1000.00 for this phone (256 GB) and now the resale value is going to be effected do to no fault of my own.

I am going to compose a formal letter of complaint to Apple corporate and I will let this page know what response I receive. All I can do I keep trying and hopefully I will get to the right person. I’m sure Apple will get enough complaints and possibly do something.

Hey,

Even I am facing issue with iphone 7 plus matte black. I bought it 3 months back and in just 3 months back panel started loosing its shine. I can see some white spots on back panel.. more along the edge of the phone and they are increasing gradually.. and it looks very odd. and more disappointing part is when I tried to update this issue on this apple discussion forum apple is not allowing me to update that content on this forum. so it seems apple is holding its customer back from posting genuine feedback if they are negative. and I don't think its a cosmetic damage I believe its a poor quality. Apple is not taking quality of its product seriously and its really very disappointing

I had purchased the I Phone 7 mat black colour and i am using it very delicately but found that suddenly the colour is peeling off near the speakers.

I search on Google and found that this is happening with the mat black colour of I Phone 7.

We do not expect such product after paying 60000 INR.

Even a normal china made phone does not face such issue in a year of purchase.

when called to your call centre they said they can do any thing as this comes under cosmetic issue.

My point is that when someone buy some expensive thing he should not be cheated in such way.

The issue is there with many customers so it something wrong in the device and customer should get the replacement for the same.

If it is not resolved then we have to promote not to buy Apple I phone.

Waiting for the solution on it.

My case might be even worse. The paint at the back of the iPhone started to chip off very heavily. First there were some bubbles building up and then when I put the iPhone on a table the paint chipped off completely.

I was at an Apple Store complaining about it but they didn't know how to classify my case so I didn't get a new phone for free. But the Apple Support hotline helped me out and asked me to send pictures of my phone. These pictures now have been sent to the engineers in California and I'm waiting for feedback...

Will keep you posted.
