Standard email protocols have never supported recalling since the sending domain has no access to or control over the receivers domain. Since they are separate systems, one cannot pull a file from the other. Once it hit the recipients inbox, that message was irretreviably theirs.

Recall can only be done if both sending and receiving system are in the same domain and even then, usually only if the recipient has enabled recalling (i.e. even on intra-domain systems like a company's internal mail system, recipients usually have the ability to deny recalls of messages).
