my bf's phone was stolen and we reported it to the police, cctv was reviewed but no one caught who really took the phone. there were suspects during that time but they said that the evidence was not enough to prove that the person was guilty. I want to block the phone but we already forgot the icloud account and password but we still have the serial number.
mind you the carrier can't block the phone with the serial but they can block your contract from being used
if you have the IMEI you can report that to the carrier and or police some countries have systems in place which would block the phone from ever being used on the networks again
Not possible, if you use Find My Phone you may be able to locate and you will be able to erase it, the serial number is useless to you for either. It is possible that your carrier will be able to block the phone, but you will to ask them about that.
How was the phone set up?
Was Find My iPhone turned on? If so you can erase the phone remotely. Also the iPhone cannot be reset or reused without knowing the Apple ID and password of the owner.
Was a passcode set on the phone? If so the thief will not be able to unlock the iPhone.

It's already off. Doesnit mean to say that it is secured if the phone was off because they cannot use it.?
