IPhone shuts down - battery issues or IOS bug ?

Apple iPhone 6s - 64 GB version - approx 1 year old.

IOS version 10.1.1

This has happened to me twice. First time was one morning I tried to open Snapchat. This was inside and temperature was approx 15 degress Celcius (early morning in bedroom). Second time was outside when I opened up the Camera app to take a picture. Temperature was approx 5 degrees Celcius.

I did not experience this when iPhone was running 10.1 or earlier. I upgraded to 10.1.1 the day after it was available.

After opening Snapchat/Camera app the screen just went blank. I could see that the LEDs were still on because it was possible to see the backlight. But after a couple of seconds the screen went totally black and the unit turned off.

Both times I used the power button to turn it back on. The first time I got the "red low power - insert charger" icons and the unit refused to do anything until I connected it to the USB charger. The second time I was able to start the phone but after I had entered the PIN code for my SIM, it shut down and then I got the "red low power - insert changer" icons when I tried to start it once more.

Both times this happened the battery indicator showed approx 50% (45-55 something) when it shut down. And when I connected the phone to the charger it showed the same. There are no applications running in the background using much power. Under daily usage I have no problems using the iPhone until the battery indicator goes down to 10-15% (I never let it run empty).

So could this be a battery issue showing that my battery might start to get faulty or is it a bug in IOS 10.1.1 ? Or might it be something else. Any input ?

This has been happening to me since the phone was almost new, but only in cold weather (below ~10 deg C). It seems to be worse when using an app that uses GPS (i.e. maps). The phone shuts down, regardless of battery % remaining, and shows the 'plug in to charge' indicator if I try to turn it back on.

If I let it warm up to room temperature again, I can turn it back on and the battery % is the same as before it shut off.

It happened both with IOS9 and IOS10

I am facing the same problem... Iphone 6s 64gb with iOS 10.1.1 (14B150)

It is randomly shutting down between 30%-5% of the battery... At first (the first times i had this problem the phone was shutting down in 10%-5%) i thought it was a new feature of iOS 10 that reminds the users not to consume all the battery and learn them to charge the phone before the battery drains completely... Later the problem got worse...

I hope its a software issue that can be fixed with a single update...
